April 2014

Two of ACTS’ veteran leaders, Dean Seibert and Linda Kennedy, made a one week trip in early April 2014 to advance plans for a dental clinic, to arrange a donation of fire fighting gear for the Yoro community, to deliver a sorely needed wheelchair, and to lay the groundwork for an expansion of the cancer screening program that took place in 2013.

Dean and Linda met with the El Rosario Clinic Committee to discuss dental needs, refine dental clinic plans, and discuss a comprehensive program to improve dental healththroughout the community. They also met with leaders of the dental school at Catholic University in in San Pedro Sula who agreed to help staff a dental clinic when it is built.

ACTS became aware of a need for fire fighting protective gear by the Yoro fire department, and also about the availability of 25 kits of gear from Hanover, NH. Linda and Dean met with the Yoro fire chief, and then met with the management of New Holland Apparel in San Pedro Sula, as New Holland has volunteered to transport the kits from the US to Honduras. In addition, Linda and Dean held preliminary discussions with New Holland about expanding the cancer screening to reach some 7,000 workers in San Pedro factories.
