Local Leadership
Our goal is Community Development by helping Hondurans to make their communities stronger.
Local leaders are essential, and they are all volunteers. They determine priorities, set standards, motivate and organize others, handle money, and interact with the Honduran government. When we can be helpful, we assist as requested.
El Rosario is the center of ACTS’ catchment area, and our primary work is through local committees. We model committee behavior by agreeing on agendas, talking in turn, taking notes, and always allowing time for extra items as they arise. The committee members recruit new members as appropriate.
The local committees include Health & Development, Clinic, Water Board, Agricultural Leadership, Hope & Faith Gardens, and the Patronato, which is an elected committee.
Learning how to be a leader, preparing for a career, and spreading the ethic of volunteerism are the purposes of teen participation in ACTS’ program called La Fuerza para el Futuro that translates to The Force for the Future.
The local Health & Development Committee is critical to virtually every enterprise in El Rosario. Their level of caring, attention to follow-up, and willingness to do anything to make life better for families is legendary. Gloria Castro has been the president for more than 20 years.
The Clinic Committee manages the staff, scope of practice, purchasing pharmaceuticals, plans to support disabled individuals, and a growing outreach program. Nelson Mejia has been the president for more than 10 years.
The Patronato is an elected body, like a town council, that serves for a year, with no budget.
Decades ago, this spring was the original water source for El Rosario. We have plans to rehabilitate it to irrigate farmland.
