March 2018
Our 2018 mid-March team of Dean Seibert, Jinny Brack, Betsy Rybeck Lynd, and Linda Kennedy with veteran Honduran driver interpreters Julio Zuniga and Carlos Mandujano, had primary goals of pilot testing vision and hearing screening in elementary schools, advancing the ongoing project to reduce family exposure to agricultural chemicals like pesticides and herbicides, and medical consultations for complex cases. These photos L to R show: the team at Logan airport with 400# of donations for Honduras including medicine, clothing, equipment to improve teaching of mathematics, and a soccer ball; one of dozens of families that have constructed child-proof boxes to store their agricultural chemicals; one of more than 100 children screened for vision abnormalities with a rapid-test digital device that provides results within a few seconds; and a glimpse of the teenage girls at our special class on “how a woman’s body works.” Of 21 young women who attended, only one had ever had anyone talk with her about women’s health. This will become a top priority for ACTS.
