The primary goal of this trip was to get the new dental clinic up and running, and to make progress on identifying and contracting with a Honduran dentist to provide ongoing preventative and restorative services in El Rosario for the Locomapa region. The ACTS team worked on organizing clinic equipment and supplies, and held a dental clinic for local residents during the trip. Progress was made in clarifying the role of the dentist to be hired and individual prospects were identified. In addition, the team visited the government clinic in Ocotal to see if there is an opportunity for collaboration; connected with our Honduras Hope colleagues in Yoro to discuss areas of mutual interest; and explored educational opportunities for Locomapa students at CEVER, a technical school in Yoro. Additionally, the team provided medical and chiropractic services for acute and chronic medical problems, and furthered the discussion (begun last April) about reconfiguration of the medical/dental clinic building.
