September 2024 - Soccer, Agriculture and Transportation
Charlie Miller led a trip focused on agriculture, the Colegio's soccer program, student transportation options and more. Charlie met with a group of farmers who are turning their attention to new ways of doing things. They plan to experiment with the cultivation of pimientas as a cash crop within an area previously used as a coffee plantation. They also plan to plant an experimental cover crop of sorghum, buckwheat and clover in a mahogany plantation just outside of El Rosario.
Charlie met with the two new teachers and the Colegio, and with the local education committee to explore assumptions, past enrollment, ideas, and options to provide the ACTS Education Committee with valuable information as we plan for colegio transportation in 2025.
Charlie and volunteers Santiago Tijerana and Anthony Fiori, both soccer players from Maine, were very happy to be there to observe the first ever regional soccer tournament in El Rosario, with both boys' and girls' teams. A soccer camp is anticipated for January.
